Eating & Weight Management Issues

Tracy Tucker, AM, LCSW
Psychotherapist, Eating & Weight Management Specialist

As a society, we're bombarded with images and reminders about the desirability of thin and unhealthy body types, glamorized and idealized versions of beauty, unrealistic ideals of physical fitness, and the supposed ease of weight loss regimens. It's practically impossible, not to mention unhealthy, to try to measure up to these unrealistic and, ultimately, shaming ideals. Whether it is because of one's genetic predisposition, diet or eating habits, or emotional or addictive eating patterns, managing one's weight can be one of life's most challenging problems.

If we only manage weight and obesity through a diet or medical approach, we are merely treating the symptoms, not the root of the problem. While so many of us seek medical and nutritional treatments or diets for obesity, we often neglect the very important emotional and personal aspects of one's overeating and weight management issues. Diets, or "quick" weight loss plans, are sure to either fail, or be temporary, if the whole person and their personal and emotional needs are not met.

Therapy services with a trained and experienced eating and weight management specialist can make all the difference in meeting and maintaining one's eating and weight goals. Moreover, attentive caring professional therapy services can bridge the gap between the medical/nutritional and the personal aspects of eating and weight management challenges. I am committed to helping clients overcome the emotional, personal and physical obstacles that prevent them from achieving the happiness, health and well-being they desire. I connect to the whole person and help them through the very challenging and sometimes difficult path of eating and weight management.

Some of the issues I can assist you with, include:

  • Identifying your personal relationship with food and its role in your life
  • Recognizing and responding to your body's natural hunger and satiety cues
  • Understanding and managing 'emotional eating'
  • Adopting healthy and affirming coping skills
  • Practicing self-care
  • Improving body image and self-esteem
  • Learning and practicing assertive self-expression and communication skills
  • Incorporating realistic physical activity into your life

Together, we will work step by step, at a realistic pace, on a plan designed to meet your individual needs. Life doesn't start 10 pounds from now. Choose to get on your way to a happier, healthier more confident you. You deserve it!
